STROKE,DIABETES, HYPERTENSION SURGE AT POST COVID-19 CLINICS IN ZAMBIA 


  ...as 372 deaths out of 4,242 stroke cases were recorded in 2021

Zambia's Ministry of Health has disclosed that the latest research shows there is an increase risk of stroke among individuals who suffered from COVID-19. 

Professor Lloyd Mulenga, Ministry of Health Director Infectious Diseases discloses that the country recorded 372 deaths out of 4,242 cases of stroke in 2021alone attributing the most stroke cases to high blood pressure and diabetes. 

And Professor Mulenga announced that stroke,chronic fatigue, chronic lung condition, hypertension and diabetes are among the conditions that are being presented at the post-COVID-19 clinic.

The Professor added that the current data further indicates that the affected individual are below the age of 50.

Professor Mulenga has since urged the general public especially those with blood pressure conditions to quickly seek medical attention whenever they feel unwell to avoid the condition developing into stroke.

However,Health Minister Sylvia Masebo has announced that current data shows that the risk of stroke is more than twice as high for COVID-19 patients compared to those without COVID-19.

Meanwhile about 2.2 million people in Zambia have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 representing about 20 percent of the numbers required for the head immunity. 

And about 100 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have gone to waste.

The ministry disclosed that the country currently has over 5 million doses of various COVID-19 vaccines available in storage while 98,454 doses representing 0.01 percent have gone to waste out of over 8.6 million vaccines which were imported into the country.s 372 deaths out of 4,242 stroke cases were recorded in 2021.
