LUSAKA - In an effort to improve the penetration of electric vehicles in Zambia to reduce carbon emission ,government has implored the automobile manufacturing industry to invest in infrastructure that support the electric automobiles as the country plans to transition to the new automobile innovation.

However ,Zambia’s shift to electric automobile remains slow as a result of inadequate infrastructure such as charging ports among other challenges.

Speaking at the launch of Volkswagen (VW) showroom in Lusaka, Country’s transport and communication minister Frank Tayali says adequate infrastructure and trained workforce is key in enhancing country’s transition to electric vehicles.

The minister added “the country is at a pivotal moment in motor vehicle industry …and as government ,recognizes the crucial role the industry plays to the social and economy of the country.”

“As we transition to EMV we need to ensure our workforce is adequately prepared to support this, CFAO, a business partner to Volkswagen should take a lead and ensure mechanics should have advanced skills to support the transition .” the minister said .

And Volkswagen country delegate  Dino Bianchi ,said Volkswagen has made significant progress to embrace the revolutionary transformation in the motor vehicle industry.

Bianchi, therefore, commended government for the enabling environment and that the launching of the VW showroom has been a commitment to offer the best on the Zambian market .

Volkswagen motor vehicle brand remains one of the best and oldest brands on market ,making the country a bigger market for VW .
